Brooke Burke Playboy Chat -- April 2001

Moderator: Hi, everyone, and welcome to tonight's chat! Please welcome Wild On host and Playboy celebrity model Brooke Burke!
Brooke Burke: Hi! I'm really happy to be here tonight and dying to chat with you all!
sarkoffagus Brooke, what's it like hosting Wild On?
Brooke Burke: It's really fun. Every show is a new adventure. I get to travel all over the world and make a lot of new friends. It's the stuff of fantasy.
guest38 Brooke, thanks for letting us see the extra photos of you in the Playboy Cyber Club, they're fantastic. Did you get to choose the setting for the shoot?
Brooke Burke: Yes I did. I chose Bali because I wanted to do something really natural in a spiritual environment. I've always been intrigued by Bali.
wildonbb Your tummy is awesome. Do you work out every day?
Brooke Burke: (Laughs) I don't work out every day, but I do Pilates, which is great for toning, and I eat healthy and take good care of myself.
guest123 What is Pilates?
Brooke Burke: It's a cross between, in my opinion, yoga and weight training. It's for toning and stretching. I do it with a personal trainer on a Pilates machine.
bwilkozek When you first got into the business, how was the competition?
Brooke Burke: Really tough. But I think you just have to focus on what you want to do and not spend too much time worrying about the competition. Do the best job you can and wait for the right opportunity.
wildonbb Do you have any acting roles on the horizon?
Brooke Burke: I'm starting to read for a lot of different parts, and I'm just trying to choose my steps very carefully. In fact, I'm reading a script right now, but I can't say which one!
guest139 Where does E! plan to send you in the next year?
Brooke Burke: Oh, a lot of European shows: Cypress, Greece, Italy, Casablanca, Ibiza, New Zealand, Croatia. Far away from home!
holdenhx G'day Brooke, thanks for chatting with us today. I'm sorry I didn't get to see you when you were down here in Australia a few months ago, but luckily I have a second chance today, and I've been very much looking forward to it. Did you have a good time with us? I hope we were very hospitable for you, though I hear the crocodiles may not have been. Don't take that personally; they're very misunderstood creatures. I'm sure they were all love bites.
Brooke Burke: G'day mate! I had an incredible time in Austrialia, and the Aussies party harder than anyone I've ever seen. Boy, you guys sure can drink some beer! I even enjoyed the crocodiles! (Laughs)
bwilkozek Since Bali is your favorite place to vacation, where would you consider your favorite place to live?
Brooke Burke: My dream locale is on a ranch, which could be in a number of places. Bali is not my favorite place to vacation -- St. Bart's is one of my faves and Uruguay is also a top pick. But I really did enjoy Bali.
guest39 I saw your exclusive photos appearing in the Playboy Cyber Club for a limited time and was wondering if you've ever done a search for yourself on the Internet? Did you like what you found?
Brooke Burke: I've never done a search. But I've heard there's all kinds of stuff out there, and it's unfortunate that I can't control it.
bwilkozek Now that you have done the Playboy pictorial, do you have any regrets? I mean, it's absolutely beautiful and done in a very tasteful fashion, but do you think it may place you in more of a fishbowl atmosphere?
Brooke Burke: I have no regrets, other than that the first time is gone. I don't think it will change people's perceptions of me too much. I think it has increased public awareness of me, and that's a good thing.
ghostwheel Brooke, do you have much input into the Wild On shows and locations?
Brooke Burke: Yes! We collectively choose our destinations, and we all put our two cents in while planning the production. So it's definitely a group effort.
bwilkozek Brooke, what's your favorite thing to do in the winter?
Brooke Burke: Drink hot cocoa with peppermint schnapps and listen to Christmas music. And spend time with my family.
bwilkozek When you get a chance to get out of the limelight, what's your favorite thing to do?
Brooke Burke: I'm really a homebody. I spend most of my time at home with my family or hanging out with my friends. I love to go to the theater, I love to take long walks. I love taking care of my animals and my daughter.
bwilkozek Brooke, what are your favorite things to do on a date?
Brooke Burke: Stimulating conversation and making out.
ace_driver Brooke, what's the first thing you notice in a man?
Brooke Burke: His eyes and his charisma.
boyleman Hi Brooke, I'm from Scotland -- will you be visiting Scotland in the future?
Brooke Burke: It's not on this year's schedule, but hopefully one day!
newageherald Brooke, how would you describe your spirituality? How do you see the relationship between spirituality and sensuality?
Brooke Burke: I'm very spiritual, and there's not nearly enough time to go into that, but I think that spirituality and sensuality are linked by being in touch with yourself. I have a lot of faith in God, but more liberal spiritual views.
guest72 Welcome to the chat, Brooke. My name is Peter and I just wanted to say that you are very beautiful. Not because of the pics, but in general you are perfect in my eyes. Is there anything you could share with us that would we would be surprised to know about you?
Brooke Burke: Thank you for the compliment, Peter. I have a one-year-old daughter -- a lot of people may not know about that. But there are no big secrets here.
bwilkozek So how does it feel getting all this attention?
Brooke Burke: It's very exciting, but I'm on the road and out of the country so much that I haven't felt the effects of the magazine from home yet. I just got home yesterday and am leaving again in a few days and am sorry that I'm going to miss it.
badger98 What part of Wild On do you like better, the nightlife or the day life?
Brooke Burke: No question, the day life. Nightlife is a little bit difficult to shoot because of the crowds. But it's all fun!
quadroller Do you get hit on a lot at any of the clubs you visit?
Brooke Burke: Hardly ever -- I think people are intimidated by the camera and the crew and hesitant to enter that working circle. When I do get hit on, it's usually just all in good fun. I'm not offended by it.
boyleman Brooke, what persuaded you to pose for Playboy? (Thankfully you did!) :-)
Brooke Burke: It was an honor to be considered as a cover girl, and it's always been a fantasy of mine to do a pictorial. I just had faith that it'd be done in the right way. Oh, I just finished taping a show for Politically Incorrect! Bill Murray had my issue of Playboy in his hands when I walked onstage, and he set it on the table where it stayed for the whole show. I was the only woman on the panel and everyone was poking fun at me.
bwilkozek Brooke, if you were guaranteed to be as successful, would you have chosen another career?
Brooke Burke: No, I wouldn't change anything in my life. I think I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
knighthawk Brooke, how does your family feel about your career -- are they supportive?
Brooke Burke: They are very supportive. They are huge fans. My mother is very proud. My father is supportive of everything I do, even Playboy.
chriskho Did you go to college?
Brooke Burke: Yes. Santa Monica College and UCLA. I studied business advertising and broadcast journalism.
enzyme What would you say has been your favorite experience filming Wild On?
Brooke Burke: That's a hard question. They are all great experiences. They are all very different. I loved the segment where I freed the baby turtles. I also liked hiking through the Belizean jungle and through the mines.
puzleman Is there any chance of you becoming a Playmate?
Brooke Burke: (Laughs) I don't think you can, once you've done a pictorial.
monty55429 Do you get a chance to read your fans' emails?
Brooke Burke: Yes, I do! And I respond to as many of them as I can.
knight63 What has been the scariest experience on Wild On?
Brooke Burke: La Tomatina in Spain, the world's largest food fight. It's like a war. It was my first show, and I just got smothered with tomatoes. It was very brutal. (Laughs)
daveubus How long do you want to do Wild On before moving on to something else?
Brooke Burke: I'll continue doing Wild On until it's time to grow and I am presented with that opportunity.
patrick_meade Have you appeared on Howard Stern?
Brooke Burke: No, I haven't! I've been asked to, and we're talking about it for this year. I haven't been able to fit it into my schedule yet. Do you guys think I should do the show?
monty55429 Don't go on Howard Stern, he's too rude!
hamandjam Howard would most likely say, YES! :)
guest449 No, don't do it! Don't do Stern! :)
guest123 Do Stern. He'll treat you well on his show. It's fun. You'll like it.
sarkoffagus Brooke, do you still have the same dog you had when you moved to LA on your 19th birthday?
Brooke Burke: No, she got hit by a car. It was very sad. But I have another dog that is just as sweet. It's a pit bull.
bwilkozek What's your B-day?
Brooke Burke: September 8th. I'm very Virgo!
jenemad69 Do you have any talk shows scheduled for the near future?
Brooke Burke: Airing tonight is Politically Incorrect. Hopefully Craig Kilbourne. I was supposed to do Sally Jesse Raphael, but I couldn't get to NY. Hopefully soon! I was the only woman on the Politically Incorrect panel. We talked about some fun issues, and they teased me a lot about my Playboy cover. But I survived!
balybaly What does "very Virgo" mean?
Brooke Burke: That I have a lot of the Virgo characteristics: I'm very organized, I'm very critical constructively, I'm very much into nature.
blogan55 Do you think we will be seeing any other girls of E! in Playboy?
Brooke Burke: I don't know -- I haven't heard any rumors about it.
sarkoffagus Brooke, were you very popular in high school?
Brooke Burke: I was homecoming queen, but I wasn't very socially active. My boyfriend went to another school.
newageherald Don't you think the time is long past due for there to be full-frontal nudity on American TV? Shouldn't we have caught up with the civilized nations of Europe yet?
Brooke Burke: I agree. I think that we should censor violence more than nudity. I think that we'd have fewer sexual crimes if we weren't so paranoid about nudity in our country.
guest446 So Brooke, what is the most creative way a guy has ever tried to approach you? Gotta figure some guy thought of a good way to try to talk to a celebrity.
Brooke Burke: I haven't been fortunate enough to be creatively approached. I think sometimes simplicity is more effective.
brian_wallace What kind of music do you like to listen to?
Brooke Burke: I listen to everything: I love international music. I like sexy, groovy, funky music, if that makes sense. I even listen to country. I'm a big fan of sappy love songs!
brian_wallace What was the last good book you read?
Brooke Burke: The Alchemist. My favorite book of all time is The Way of the Peaceful Warrior. It's a great spiritual book, the story of a man's life and how he learned to be peaceful and not worry too much about the little things. It's a life-changing book. It's really great.
knight63 What is a typical schedule for you?
Brooke Burke: When I'm on the road with Wild On, I usually do intros and activities during the day and nightlife during the evening. I interview people day and night. When I'm home, I do voiceovers for my show, handle all the post-production details, try to work out, try to find time for myself whenever possible.
guest449 You've been in LA quite a while. Me, a few months -- where do you suggest I visit?
Brooke Burke: The Self-Realization Center in Encinitas, definitely. The Japanese restaurant Asakuma, if you like sushi. Barfly on Friday nights for fun. My favorite Italian restaurant is Pepones. There's always a great Broadway show at the theater. And definitely hit the beach!
lsutiger69 What was your favorite photograph from your Playboy pictorial?
Brooke Burke: The full-body poolside shot. But they didn't run some of my favorite pics.
Moderator: More of Brooke's photos, perhaps including some of her favorites, are available until April 30 at the Playboy Cyber Club. A good time to join!
balybaly You seem very introspective: Have you always been that way?
Brooke Burke: Yes, I think so.
cyrano69 Where do you want to be in your career in five years?
Brooke Burke: I definitely want to spend more time at home. I'd like to have a regular studio gig or do films with a less hectic schedule than I have now. I'm waiting for the right role.
jenemad69 Is it hard to go out in public without being noticed?
Brooke Burke: I rarely get noticed -- I think that's because I'm pretty casual when I'm not working. I don't wear any makeup, and I dress really comfortably. It's changing a little bit now with the Playboy cover, but I'm not in the U.S. enough to really feel the effect.
cgargyris You said in the article with your pictorial that in Arizona, "being a Playmate seemed to be the ultimate thing." Did you know a lot of Playmates growing up or in the modeling business in LA?
Brooke Burke: In Arizona, I didn't know anyone in the industry. I think that in places outside LA there is something intriguing about being involved with Playboy. The rest of the world looks at it differently than LA does. Now, Miss March 1994 Neriah Davis is my best friend, and I'm also friends with PMOY 1990 Reneé Tenison and Reneé's sister Rosie. I share a tattoo on the back of my neck with Neriah and Miss September 1997 Nikki Schieler. I named my daughter after Neriah Davis, actually.
brian_wallace What recent film would you really have liked to act in?
Brooke Burke: Kama Sutra. That's not really recent, though. Hmm...I would've loved to have been a James Bond girl. That would've been cool!
brian_wallace Who would be your dream leading man?
Brooke Burke: I'd like to make Maxwell, the musician, a leading man and star in any film with him.
robrobertson Would you consider doing a film if it involved a steamy, nude love scene?
Brooke Burke: If it was tastefully shot, yes. It would depend on who was directing the film, what it was rated and how important the scene was to the plot.
hamandjam What's the tattoo of and when did you get it?
Brooke Burke: It's a bunny seen from the back. Neriah, Nikki and I got it one crazy night celebrating our birthday. It must've been about four years ago.
cgargyris Did Neriah suggest that you pose? Were you approached by Playboy for a while before you decided to go ahead?
Brooke Burke: It was probably a six-month negotiation. I didn't discuss it with any of my friends, though I did think long and hard about it. And everyone in my circle is very supportive.
nachitobu What is it that makes you cry?
Brooke Burke: Gosh, lots of things. Love songs. Movies. People I care about who are hurting. And sometimes happy things, not just sad. Precious moments.
sarkoffagus Brooke, what's your favorite sappy love song?
Brooke Burke: Celine Dion's Water From the Moon. Luther Vandross' So Amazing.
jenemad69 Are you involved in any charity work? Brooke Burke: Yes, I give 10 percent of the proceeds from my website to the Humane Society. I work with Entertainers for Kids and plan to get a lot more involved as soon as my schedule permits. I also do some work for the American Cancer Society.
cgargyris Do you have plans for a members' side to your website with video chats or something? Brooke Burke: I would like to, but right now I think it's nice to just allow the fans to visit my site free of charge. As soon as I have more time to update it with current information and more photos, it's possible.
ghostwheel Brooke, is there a way that I can get my issue of Playboy autographed by you?
Brooke Burke: Yes. Autographed issues will be available in BB's Boutique on my website at www.Brooke Burke:.com sometime in May.
jkauffman13 Are you going to go to any parties at the Mansion if you have not already?
Brooke Burke: I always miss them because of my Wild On schedule. In fact, I had to miss Hef's 75th birthday party. But I plan to visit, I want to! I miss all the parties.
cgargyris How many weeks are you off on tapings and how often are you home in LA?
Brooke Burke: I'm home half the month and on the road half the month. I can take vacations when I need them, but we shoot year-round.
guest449 Have there been places that Wild On wanted to shoot but was not allowed to, by authorities or government?
Brooke Burke: Not yet, but I think because of the nature of our show some Middle Eastern countries might be a little difficult.
jenemad69 Can you speak any other languages?
Brooke Burke: I can speak Spanish, enough to get by, and I know little bits and pieces of a lot of different languages, such as German.
guest294 Have you thought of producing your own show?
Brooke Burke: I feel like I already do sometimes. I would like to. Often I don't have a script, so a lot of my words are spontaneous, and sometimes we have to make up dialogue on the spot, which I'm very comfortable doing. Plus, I have some great ideas for shows, so yes.
playboyvoyeur2 What's your favorite style of swimsuit to wear?
Brooke Burke: Definitely Brazilian bottoms. They are in between a thong and a full back. I like bandeau tops and unique swimsuits that don't leave a lot of tan lines. Something string tied.
guest476 Any chance of doing a Wild On Chad's One-Bedroom Apartment in Cincinnati? Just me and you kickin' it, playin' PlayStation 2?
Brooke Burke: Possibly! I like PlayStation. And I like courage! (Laughs)
firethorn What is the wildest thing you have ever seen while shooting Wild On?
Brooke Burke: The sexual-position contest. I believe it was in Mexico. People had to do as many sexual positions as they could to one song on the dance floor, clothed. Clothed! There was no sex going on.
badger98 What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you on Wild On?
Brooke Burke: Wild On the Windy City. I was getting a salsa lesson. I had a tube top on and it came off as I was being dipped. I felt it going. So, needless to say, I let go to grab it and fell to the floor. Nobody saw much, but it was very embarrassing. And of course, it made it to the show. Don't dance in a tube top! (Laughs)
sarkoffagus Brooke, have you ever inadvertently gotten drunk while filming one of the parties?
Brooke Burke: No. After filming, I have. (Laughs) No, sorry guys! I'd say I consumed enough to have a good time and deal with all the drunks, but I've never crossed the boundaries.
hamandjam Brooke, what piece of art or decor in your house do you cherish the most?
Brooke Burke: I have a couple of things. I have an antique world map with a little pin in every place that I've visited. I also have an old bronze bell from a Spanish castle in my kitchen that I brought back from Spain.
guest294 Do you ever take your daughter to any Wild On shoots?
Brooke Burke: I've never spent a night without her. She goes everywhere I go. She has more stamps on her passport already than I had until I was an adult. She travels everywhere. It's getting harder now that she's one because she's walking and doesn't want to sit in a plane seat for very long.
piglittle Where do you get your good looks from?
Brooke Burke: My mom and my dad. My mother is French and Portuguese and my father was French and Irish. There was a lot of happiness there, too.
jldew117 Is it true the show is played uncut in other countries?
Brooke Burke: I don't think any show is uncut -- it's played unmasked, which means all nudity is shown, whereas in the US, we blur out the nudity. In other countries you see everything, but it's still an edited show. The first time I saw one of my shows overseas, I was pretty shocked.
knight63 Do you think the show's success comes from the destinations or from the gorgeous women?
Brooke Burke: I think it's a combination of a lot of things. We put together a show that's very real, we show the viewers what's truly happening in a destination, and of course beautiful women always make for good TV.
bambam101 What do you miss the most when you're out filming?
Brooke Burke: My bed. My bed. My bed. My bed! My bed and my man.
babyblues Is there anybody else like you at home?
Brooke Burke: I have three older sisters and three younger brothers. We're all completely different. Different mothers or fathers. Well, actually, I look a lot like one of my brothers.
monty55429 How much of your real personality comes across on the show?
Brooke Burke: Most of it. I'm never acting on the show. In fact, when they hired me they were looking for a real person, not a newscaster or an actress. It's basically me hanging out with the people, and it's very real.
nachitobu What do you dream of?
Brooke Burke: I feel like I have everything I want in my life right now. I've always dreamt of just being happy, and I am. I just want to continue down this path.
hamandjam You seem like a very grounded person. How do you maintain a level head with all that's going on -- or is it natural for you?
Brooke Burke: I think it comes from my upbringing, but I am very grounded. You have to be in order to survive in the entertainment industry. Someone told me when I was young that you have to have your feet on the ground and your head in the clouds. That's my choice.
cgargyris Which country, in your opinion, has the most beautiful women?
Brooke Burke: Brazil. They have beautiful, guitar-shaped bodies. They are just incredible. Dark skin, voluptuous body, a lot of passion.
cyrano69 What kind of car does a beautiful woman like you drive?
Brooke Burke: I drive a Lexus truck and a Ferrari Maranello.
hamandjam Brooke, what are the foods that you could gorge yourself with?
Brooke Burke: Pizza, Jack in the Box curly fries and chocolate-chip cookies.
guest294 Who is your man and how did you two meet? Brooke Burke: His name is Dr. Garth Fisher. A mutual friend introduced us. He is a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and has done the breasts of some of the Playmates.
holdenhx Are your breasts real?
Brooke Burke: Do they look real?
guest937 Are you cosmetically enhanced?
Brooke Burke: Yes, and I don't know a swimsuit model in LA who's not.
hamandjam Since the birth of your daughter, what perceptions and values have changed in your mind, if any?
Brooke Burke: I've learned the true meaning of bonding. I fall in love daily. And I realize what it's like to truly be needed and loved. Somebody else always comes first.
cyrano69 Do you have plans for more children?
Brooke Burke: Yes, I'd love to have a boy. If I'm fortunate enough, I'd like three children, but I want to wait until I'm done traveling so much. I think three years apart is a pretty good time span.
guest72 Brooke, could you say hi to my friends Peter and Chris? Their keyboard busted, and they are just watching the chat now.
Brooke Burke: Hi Peter and Chris! I'm sorry you are having problems! I wish I could hear your questions.
sarkoffagus Brooke, thanks for chatting. Keep smiling everywhere you go.
Moderator: Thanks, Brooke, for a great chat!
bambam101 Bye Brooke, thanks for just being you.
guest1055 Brooke, we love you, and keep bringing us those vacation spots. You would be a great James Bond girl!
guest450 Brooke, I think you're the bomb! You're welcome to come get Wild On Canada any time!
robrobertson Goodbye, Brooke. It has been wonderful chatting with you!
cyrano69 Brooke, thank you for gracing the cover of Playboy. I can't wait to purchase an autographed copy!
jenemad69 Thanks, Brooke, I realize that there is more to you than just a beautiful bod.
lesachord007 It has been a real treat spending time with you.
guest294 Brooke, keep up the GREAT work, and best wishes for your future. THANKS!
Brooke Burke: I wish it were possible to directly communicate with people more often! I really enjoyed this. There's all kinds of new stuff on my website at Brooke Burke:.com -- lots of behind-the-scenes stuff about Wild On, a highlights page where I show all the projects I'm working on and BB's Boutique for buying photos. I had a lot of fun doing the pictorial and appreciate all the positive response. Thanks for watching the shows! Lastly, there will be a new show premiering every week this summer of some of the best shows I've put on, so watch out for those. Oh! I just signed a contract with Anheuser-Busch and there will be lots of Wild On Bud parties this year, so watch for them. They'll be in local bars all across the States. Look for all the info on my website.
monty55429 Thanks, Brooke, we need to see a lot more of you on TV.
hamandjam Thanks for spending some time here with us online. I'll continue to keep an eye out for you on Wild On and hit your website. Thanks again!
guest450 Thanks for your time, Brooke. Make sure you come visit Canada soon!
Brooke Burke: Thanks a lot, guys! Lots and lots of kisses, and I wish that we could do this more often! I will see you on E!
Moderator: Remember, everyone, you can see unpublished photos from Brooke's pictorial until April 30 at the Playboy Cyber Club. Goodnight!

(Thanks goes out to Ekklipse for this transcript!)
